Mommsen's prose alone is worth the price of admission, but beware: subsequent research has rendered parts of his study obsolete. Those who wish to draw parallels between ancient Rome and the U.S. in 2025 compare apples with oranges. Nevertheless, read alongside, say, Horace, there are lessons to be drawn that apply today.
