Academics

I used to believe that, if nothing else, academics are well-read. I have come to see that they read according to the latest fashions--like the food they eat, the clothes they wear, and the thoughts they think. This creates for them the illusion of progress--which becomes a necessary illusion for people who spend their lives chasing their tails.
