Dervish Meta-Metaphysics
The appearance of all things is by contraries,
but the Real has neither likeness nor contrary.
Since his Essence has no likeness nor contrary,
I don't know how you'll come to know Him.
The contingent world has no sample of the Necessary;
how then can one understand It, how?
Alas, the fool who for the sake of the brilliant sun
wanders the desert seeking it by the light of a candle.
--Shabistari, Garden of Mystery, tr. R. A. H. Darr, 37.
