The New Humanism
I tend to find David Brooks both smarmy and shallow. But this Op-Ed piece isn't so bad. Maybe there's hope for us all.
A Transgressive Transcendentalist manifesto.
Part Irish, part Dervish, ecstatic humanist, critical Modernist, transgressive Transcendentalist.

The real question is how the fuck he gets from the statements that he makes in this piece to the opinions he spouts in everything else he has written and continues to write.
I, personally, believe his is suffering from a fever dream and will renounce this piece as well as his recently published book on the same topics.
I tend to agree with the Grappion. Brooks's most familiar m.o. is to suck up to power. He was a shameless apologist for George W. Bush, but once BHO won in November 2008, he decided he had better tone down his "nice guy" brand of neo-fascism and find some other things to write about. That said, whether he repudiates this piece or not, I think it worth reading. I wouldn't trust the s.o.b. as far as I could throw him.
