Did They Trade Justice for Power?
While Sen. Allen waits for that "missing" box of absentee ballots that would put him over the top to turn up at the Pentagon or the trunk of Karl Rove's car, I note for the record that the newly victorious liberal wing of the Politburo has dropped all mention of impeachment. So, here's my question: Have they taken impeachment off the table? If so, what has changed about the reasons for our invasion of Iraq that would make impeachment no longer appropriate? Granted, it is not much of a remedy; nothing less than seeing Bush, Cheney, Rice, and Rumsfeld manacled and in orange jump suits appearing before an international War Crimes tribunal will satisfy me. But what has changed? Did Rove & his Dirty Tricksters agree to stand down in exchange for no impeachment, just two years of lame-duckness? Have we been betrayed yet again? Think about it.

My brother thinks Rummy resigned yesterday so that he can be pardoned before W leaves office.
I think he's right. I think all that needs to happen here is to gently scratch the surface of this administration and we will see the writhing of snakes and crawling of roaches (no offense to snakes and roaches, please). These guys were just so sure that they would hold all branches of government against any onslaught that they didn't bother to cover their tracks at all. I think we will see further indictments beyond Scooter Boy. And once the pandora's box of Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rice is opened, it'll be hard to close.
Then again, maybe I'm just flush and infused with false hope.
I fear you are flush and infused my friend. Unless what we are seeing is just the honeymoon before the storm, I think a deal was cut. We will impeach a President for sexual stupidity--but mass murder in the name of...uh...what was it? Freedom or something? Forget it. I would love to be wrong. Imagine W being placed in the stocks--in Lafayette Square, say. And about ten feet away is a rotton tomato concession. People could line up and splatter him with something nasty. Now THAT would be government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Instead, all of these criminals are going to go on with their ill-gotten gains and blood-stained hands, treated with deference and respect. No, this is how it goes in what Henry Miller called "The Air-Conditioned Nightmare." Dream of Justice, but all you ever really get to see is power doing what it does...
